Brussels wants to reform the energy security system.
The European Commission (EC) is preparing a reform of the European Union's energy security system, unifying regulations on gas supply security and electricity sector risk preparedness into a single document for the 27 EU member states.
According to the newspaper "El Economista," the initiative aims to strengthen each member state's response to supply crises, sabotage, cyberattacks, and extreme weather events.
The EC intends for the declaration of a regional or European alert, the EU Alert, to be incorporated into this document. This mechanism can be activated when the EC identifies a substantial risk of crisis, even if the market is still able to manage the situation without resorting to external measures.
